Math: Chapter 6 is multiplication with 6, 7, 8 and 9! We are doing a mad minute daily to help with our addition and subtraction fluency.

Reading: This week we are reading a Symphony of Whales. This is a fiction story about a little girl who saves a group of beluga whales. We will be working on describing characters using evidence from the text.

Writing: We are continuing our informational piece this week with learning how to gather information from different sources on the internet and from books. This piece will take us about a month to complete.

Social Studies: We are learning about different cultures. Please talk to your student about where your ancestors immigrated from if you know!

Science: Social Studies Unit.

Class News:

· Book Club: Are you looking for Christmas presents for your child? Have you considered books? I have an online ordering set up that will help you find books that are on your child’s reading level. Ordering online will also earn our class free books! I have sent home an order form with your student; please return the orders by 12/14 so I can ensure we get our books in on time. · Book-it! – We started clean on December 1! The goal is to read 250 minutes by 1/3 (When we return from break). If you reach or exceed this goal, your student will receive a coupon for a FREE personal pan pizza from pizza hut. Students that complete the book it program 4 out of the 5 months will get to enjoy a pizza party with me in April! If you do not have a December reading calendar, please let me know, I have extra copies!

· Box Tops - Box top competition is going on now, please send in any box tops to help our class!

School News:

· HOP will begin next month. Please see attached for more information.

· Santa Shoppe will be next Thursday and Friday – See attached.

· Holiday Break starts 12/22 – Our holiday party will be on 12/21 in the afternoon. We will be decorating sugar cookies, making ornaments and watch a Holiday movie. Please stay tuned for more information.

· The Southgate Educational Foundation spaghetti dinner will be February 3rd. I have attached the flyer as a “Save the Date” for you. Please make time to help the education foundation and eat a wonderful spaghetti dinner catered by Pompellios!!
